Starchild

It just keeps getting peachy, doesn’t it? Lewis put her hands on her hips.

“What the hell is this?” she asked. Kat had a sheepish look on her face.

“Um…” she said. The young man grabbed her hand.

“We’re getting back together,” he said. Kat’s face turned bright red. Lewis cut a cold glare at her.

“Is this true?” she asked. Kat pressed her lips together as she looked away. The farmer threw back her head and groaned. She wanted her niece out of her house, but not like this!

“Uh… congratulations, I guess?” Muriel said. All eyes fell on her. Lewis gave her the side-eye. Muriel quickly bowed her head.

“I’m sorry,” she mumbled. Lewis snorted before she turned back to her niece.

William and his nieces sat in the living room. Liz and Clover stared at him. He drummed his fingers along his cheek.

“I’m sorry about that,” he said.

“He was here, wasn’t he?” Liz asked.

“Yes,” William said. He sighed and rubbed his forehead.

“What did he want?” she asked. Clover looked over at William. The old man could feel her eyes pushing him to talk. Might as well get this over with.

“He wants to get back with you,” Clover said for him. William lifted his chin.

“What?” Liz asked. Her sister turned back to their uncle.

“Isn’t that right?” she asked.

“Yes,” William said. He didn’t even bother to try and lie anymore. William and Clover had their eyes on Liz. She didn’t seem to know how to respond.

“What do you want to do?” Clover asked.

“I… I don’t know,” Liz said. She looked down at her hands. Her sister rubbed her on the shoulder. William leaned back in the armchair and shook his head.

“Don’t do it, girl,” he said under his breath. Clover turned her head.

“What did you say?” she asked. He wrinkled his nose but said nothing.

“I need a moment,” Liz said. Her sister and uncle didn’t say anything. Right now, William wished that he could fast forward through this moment and move on to the point where Liz was much happier. How was he going to get out of this one?

“What is with all of the relationship problems lately?” Annie asked.

“I don’t know,” Tucker muttered. His wife frowned.

“Are you listening to me?” she asked.

“Yeah,” he mumbled. Annie sighed. She reached over and yanked the paper out of his hand. Her husband looked up. He looked up and saw Annie glaring at me.

“What?” he asked.

“You weren’t listening to me,” she said.

“Sure I was,” he said. Annie glared at him.

“Then what did I say?” she asked.

“You were talking about relationship problems,” he said. “I don’t know why everyone is having problems in their relationships.”

“What good are you?” Annie asked. Tucker shrugged.

“Hey, you asked the question. I was just answering you,” he said. Annie rolled her eyes. She was about to speak when the Sunny Plum’s door jingled open. The couple jumped to attention, ready to serve the next customer.

“So what are you going to do now?” Aisha asked. The old biddies stood out in the yard together. Lewis shook her head.

“I have no idea,” she said. The only thing that Lewis knew was that this wasn’t going to end well. Clyde pressed her face against the window, making faces. Aisha smacked her in the head.

“Ow,” Clyde muttered. Lewis shook her head before she looked into the living room. Sure enough, Kat and Derek(?) were starting to argue. The farmer shook her head.

“I hope you will excuse me,” Lewis said.

“Huh?” Clyde asked. The farmer walked back into the house. Curious, her friends followed her into the house.

“That’s enough!” Lewis shouted loud enough to be heard from outside.
