Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)

It’s another lazy Sunday in Brit-Wales. But how long is that going to last? Aisha was bored again. She just had to do something. The old biddies knew what was coming next.

“No!” Lewis was quick to say.

“Come on,” Aisha said. “Think of your fellow man.”

“No thank you,” Muriel said. The leader sighed and folded her arms across her chest.

“I won’t have you lying around doing nothing all day,” she said.

“Why not?” Clyde asked with her eyes narrowed.

“This isn’t who we are!” Aisha said.

“Isn’t it?” Muriel asked. The leader frowned and shook her head. Once again, she was going to have to put work into making them care. She wondered to herself, why do I get these?

Annie frowned at Tucker in the Sunny Plum. He rolled his eyes and sighed.

“What did I do now?” he asked. Annie just glared at her husband.

“Is it our anniversary?” Tucker asked.

“No,” she said.

“Did I forget something?”

“Yes.”

“Is it something around the house?”

“No.”

Tucker tried to think. He could already see where this was heading. Might as well try and stop this so that he can try to make this up.

“Are you going to give me a hint?” he asked.

“No,” she said. Tucker rubbed his forehead and tried to think again. There was only one thing left to try before giving up.

“Happy birthday?” he asked. Annie looked up him in the eye.

“Thank you,” she said. Tucker breathed up.

“You forgot, didn’t you?” his wife asked.

“No!” he was quick to say. “Of course not. Why would I do that?” Annie raised an eyebrow.

“Just checking…” she said.

“Come on,” he said. “What do you take me for?” Tucker tried to laugh it off. He was going to have to find her a gift and fast.

----------

Aisha came up with the perfect way to beat the lazy Sunday.

“Muriel,” she said. The old biddy looked up at her friend.

“What?” she asked.

“Is William still having problems with Liz and Clover’s grandma?” the leader asked.

“Yes… why?” she asked.

“I think that we can help him somehow,” Aisha said. The other three old biddies look at each other.

“No!” Lewis was quick to say.

“Come on,” the leader said. “After that we can help you with Kat.” The farmer drew her mouth closed and actually thought about that. Clyde flopped back onto the grass and groaned.

“Can’t we just rest fo once?” she asked. Aisha gritted her teeth.

“No,” she hissed. “A man needs our help. Who are we to let suffer alone?” Lewis, Muriel, and Clyde looked at each other. They already knew where this was heading. It didn’t help that Aisha wasn’t going to be swayed at all.

---------

William got a knock on his door. He sat up on the couch, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. Who was that at the door? More knocking followed.

“Coming!” the old man shouted. He pushed himself off the couch and walked over to the front door. William unlocked and opened it.

“Oh,” he muttered. The old biddies stood outside. Clyde, Muriel, and Lewis looked like they didn’t want to be there. Aisha smiled and waved.

“Good afternoon, William,” she said. His face went flat.

“Oh…” he said again.
