Party at the Island in the Sky

They were due to arrive in three hours. If this air ship were epic, this party on the island would be the size of the universe. Noiz turned the page in her notebook. Someone tapped her on the arm. The kitty lifted her head.

“Hm?” she asked. Mosh grinned at her.

Eep!” he said.

“Did you want something?” his girlfriend asked.

“I love you,” he said.

“Aw, I love you too,” Noiz said. They heard a snort behind them. The couple turned to see Louise couched behind them.

“You guys are so icky,” she said.

“Oh hush,” Noiz said. “We’re happy! Let us be!”

“Yeah, yeah,” Louise said. “When are we landing?”

“About three hours,” Noiz said.

“Sweet,” the older woman said. Everyone else was still playing games and watching movies. The snacks and the drinks were almost gone on the tables. Mosh held Noiz’s hand.

“What’s this party going to be like?” he asked again. His girlfriend smiled.

“Really lit,” she said. Louise gave her a strange look.

“What?” Noiz asked.

“You never talk like that,” the older woman said. The kitty shrugged.

“Does it matter?” she asked. Suddenly, the speakers crackled on. Everyone looked up as the sound flowed through the air.

“Greetings, everyone!” Pat said over the intercom. “Just a reminder, we will be landing soon. I repeat, we will be landing soon. Please remember to be seated and buckle up when we land. I repeat, please remember to be seated and buckle up when we land. That is all.” The intercom clicked off.

“Aw, we’re landing already?” Soot asked.

“We’ve got three more hours,” Noiz corrected. “You might as well get your gaming in now. The island is going to be so much better.” The intern frowned and turned back to his shooting game. Noiz and Mosh turned to each other and chuckled. Louise rolled her eyes.

----------

The Air Ship pulled up onto the landing platform. Katie looked out the window.

“Wow!” she said. The speakers crackled on again.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Pat said over the intercom. “We have arrived at Aka-Ao Island. Thank you for flying with us. Enjoy your stay.” Everyone unbuckled their belts as the intercom clicked off.

The staff debarked in a single file line.  The air ship’s crew already stood outside with their luggage for the weekend. Pat walked over in front of them in his pilot suit. He held out his arms and grinned.

“Welcome to my island!” the old man said. “Make yourselves at home!” The younger ones cheered.

“Let’s party!” Jun shouted, pumping her fists in the air. But first, they had to get set up for the weekend.

“Where will we be staying?” Noiz spoke up. She could see the gold in Pat’s teeth as he grinned.

“Follow me,” he said. His crew gathered up the luggage and followed behind. Noiz and her staff did the same.

---------

The staff’s jaws dropped.

“Holy shit!” Bemmer said as he looked up at the huge bamboo and brick mansion.

“You live here?” Mandy asked.

“Uh-huh,” Pat said. He pulled out his key. “There are enough rooms for all of you. Mimi will show you around to each one.” The old man unlocked the door and pressed the call button.

“Mimi, we’re here,” he said. “I’ve brought everyone.”

“I will be right down,” a woman said on the other line. The crew carried away the luggage into the mansion. Pat turned to his guests.

“Dinner and the party will be around six,” he said. “Until then, relax and explore around the island. Pat walked into the mansion. The staff could hardly wait and it was still Thursday. Noiz and Mosh turned to each other.

“Ready for this?” she asked. He gave her a quick kiss on the lips.

“Oh yes,” the mouse boy said. They shared another kiss as a woman in a maid’s outfit came out to greet them. She loudly cleared her throat. Everyone looked up. She clapped her hands together.

“Everyone follow me inside,” she said with a deep voice. “My name is Mimi and I will show you to your rooms.” Mimi turned and walked into the giant mansion. The staff followed her in two by two. Noiz and Mosh held hands as they followed the crowd. They all could see the paper lanterns overhead leading them up to front doors. The younger staff counted down to six o’clock.
