Not of this Earth
A new boss has risen. The girls didn’t know how this happened. Lewis was
enjoying sleeping in on one of those rare summer mornings that she had. Kat was
back in New London again. Probably living with another bloke. It didn’t matter
to her. Lewis was just happy to have the house to herself again.
That was until the phone in the kitchen started to ring. The farmer rolled over
in her bed. She mumbled to herself as the ringing didn’t stop.
“No! Go away!” Lewis pulled her pillow over her head. Sadly, the ringing
wouldn’t stop. The farmer sat up, frowning. She dragged herself out of bed and
down to the kitchen. She muttered to herself the whole time.
“Hello?” she asked.
“Good morning!” a cheery voice said. Lewis’s face dropped. No way. That can’t
be…
“Lily?” she asked as she was slowly waking up. The conversation went in through
one ear and out the other one. Lewis just wanted to go back to sleep. That’s
when one word caught her ear.
“What?” Lewis asked.
“Come down to the library right now!” Lily said. The farmer had a confused look
on her face.
“Why?” she asked.
“Don’t do it!” Clyde yelled in the background over the phone. “Ow!”
“Quiet!” Lily hissed.
“I’m going back to bed,” Lewis said. “Bye.”
“No, wait! Please come down to the library. Hurry up!” the former teacher said.
She hung up before Lewis could argue. The farmer stared at the receiver. What
just happened? There was no way she was going to go out there, right? Right?

The Sunny Plum is looking for new employees. Annie put the Help Wanted sign in
the window. So far…
Annie sighed at the counter.
“What’s wrong?” Karen asked. She walked around the café, looking dazed.
“I’m over here,” the owner said. The other woman turned to look forward. Annie
shook her head.
“I’m not having any luck with any applicants,” she said. “I haven’t had anyone
walk in for days.”
“Aw, don’t worry, Ann!” Karen said. She was looking toward the wall on her
right.
“I’m right here,” Annie said. The blonde-haired woman turned her head. Why
didn’t she just get some glasses already? Or some better ones at least?
“Aw, don’t worry, Ann!” Karen said again. “You’ll get someone soon!” Her upbeat
tone didn’t really help.
“Sure, thanks,” Annie said. Then an idea came into Karen’s head.
“Hey!” she said. “I could help you sometimes.” The café owner gave her a puzzled
look.
“Are you sure about that?” she asked. “I mean, you don’t have to if you don’t
want to…” Karen waved her off.
“Naw! I’m just being a mate,” she said. Annie still looked nervous and Karen
tried to find a table to sit at. She was about to speak.
“Auntie! I think I broke the coffee machine again!” Crusher called from the
kitchen. Annie rolled her eyes.
“What did you do?” she asked.
“I don’t know!” the boy shouted back. Annie rubbed her forehead.
“Coming!” she said. She turned and walked back into the kitchen. Karen was left
wandering around while looking at the walls.

So here Lewis was in the library with her friends. Muriel and Clyde looked like
they were ready to run away. Lily sat at the head of the table, grinning. The
farmer rolled her eyes.
“Why are we here?” she asked. Muriel tried not to look at her friends. Clyde had
her head down on the table as she yawned aloud. The old biddies tried not to
breathe in. Everyone had their eyes on Lily. The former teacher smiled as she
pulled out a planner book.
“I have lists of things we are going to do over the summer!” she said. The other
old biddies fell out of their chairs.
“What?” Lily asked. The other biddies groaned as they twitched on the floor.
They should’ve seen this coming.
And just like that, she took over the group.
