Lucky Star
Two women with broken hearts. Liz and Kat sat quiet on the couch together. The
old biddies sat in the kitchen. Clyde looked up at the younger women.
“What do we do with them?” Muriel asked.
“We have to do something,” Aisha whispered. Meanwhile, Lewis was on the phone.
“Uh-huh,” she said. “She’s here. What do you want to do?”
“I don’t really know,” William said on the other line. “She walked out of the
door before I could ask her what was wrong.” Lewis looked over at the living
room.
“But why did she come here?” she asked.
“I don’t know,” William said. The farmer frowned.
“So it’s all up to me?” Lewis asked.
“Thank you so much!” he said. “Good luck!”
“Wait!” she shouted as he hung up. She turned to her friends staring at her.
Lewis sighed and lowered the receiver.
“Well?” Muriel asked. Lewis shook her head.
“Looks like we’re dealing with Kat
and Liz,” she said.
The farmer didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Her friends turned back to the
women in the living room. They looked so numb by now.
“’ho wants to do da ‘onors?” Clyde asked. Aisha smacked her in the back of the
head.
“Ow,” she whimpered.
“Honestly,” the leader muttered. Lewis sat down at the table with her friends
and buried her head in her hands. The farmer let out a loud groan.

Clover walked into the Sunny Plum café. Annie and Tucker looked up.
“Clover,” she said. “It’s been so long. How have you been?” The young woman
walked over to the counter.
“It’s been chaotic,” she said. She leaned over and shoved her bangs away from
her forehead.
“That bad, huh?” Tucker asked. Clover pressed her lips together.
“My boss keeps trying to pull me into her problems,” she said. “I don’t know how
to tell her off and keep my job.” The couple didn’t speak at first. They looked
at each other with grim looks on their faces.
“How’s your sister?” Annie asked.
“She’s been dumped by Derek,” she said. “He dumped her over the phone. She took
off crying out of the house this morning. Uncle William didn’t even get time to
figure out what was going on.” The couple looked confused.
“Derek?” Tucker asked.
“What happened to Sonny?” Annie asked. Clover shrugged.
“He’s been gone for months now,” she said.
“Oh…” Tucker said. Annie cleared her throat.
“Is there anything we can get for you?” she asked. Clover lifted her chin.
“Do you have your shepherd’s pie?” she asked.
“Uh… yeah, yeah,” Annie said. She and her husband got to work. Clover walked
over to a table and took a seat.

Everyone looked up when they heard the doorbell ring. Lewis frowned and tilted
her head.
“Who is it now?” she asked. The farmer got up and walked over to the door.
“Who is it?” she asked.
“Uh… Is Kat there?” a man’s voice asked. Lewis frowned as she could see where
this was going.
“No,” she lied.
“Is this her aunt’s house?” the man asked.
“No, go away!” the farmer shouted.
“Are you sure?” he asked. Lewis gritted her teeth. Why isn’t he taking a hint?
“No, wrong house! Go away, mate!” she shouted. Lewis held her breath as she
waited.
“Who is that?” Clyde asked.
“No one!” Lewis shouted. She turned and walked back to the living room. The
farmer cleared her throat. Kat and Liz looked up at her. Lewis took a breath.
“So… what’s the problem with your boyfriends?” she asked. The women looked like
they were ready to cry. The farmer massaged her forehead. Might as well get this
over with if she wanted to get them out of her house. Looked like she was going
to need some help.
