Girls’ Night Out

She doesn’t usually go out for nights like this. In fact, this was Ruby’s idea. Sapphire was studying in her room when there was a knock on her door.

“Come in!” Sapphire shouted. She looked up as the door opened. Ruby stood in the doorway, grinning.

“Yo,” she said, waving.

“Hello,” Sapphire said.

“You busy right now?” the Indian girl asked.

“Uh… Studying,” the Chinese girl said. “Why?” Ruby waltzed over and grabbed her by the arm.

“Forget about that!” she said. “Come out with us tonight!” Sapphire tried to pull away.

“Why? Where are we going?” she asked. Ruby gave her a huge grin.

“Just come on!” she said. The Indian girl pulled her to her feet and dragged her along.

“Whoa!” Sapphire said. They hurried out the door.

All of the eighteen-year-old girls would be out tonight.

“I’ve got her!” Ruby said. “Let’s go!” Amethyst, Victoria, and Melanite looked up. Sapphire stood by her looking awkward.

“So good to see you!” Amethyst said.

“Hi…” Sapphire mumbled.

“Are we ready to go?” Ruby asked.

“Yeah!” Amethyst and Victoria cheered. Ruby nudged Sapphire along. Melanite gave her a sympathetic look. All five of the girls headed off.

“So where exactly are we going?” Victoria asked. Amethyst turned around with a big smile on her face.

“That new karaoke place that opened up in Shinjuku,” she said. “Then we’ll go out and to get something to eat. And then maybe catch a late movie.”

“We’re staying out all night?” Sapphire asked.

“Yeah,” Amethyst said. “Is that a problem?” All eyes fell on the Chinese girl. Sapphire hesitated at first. Did they have to stare intently at her? She finally dropped her shoulders.

“No,” she said in a soft voice. Amethyst pumped her fist up in the air.

“Let’s do this!” she shouted. The other girls cheered. Meanwhile, Melanite came up beside Sapphire.

“It’s okay,” she whispered. “They dragged me out too.” Sapphire looked up at her.

“Huh?” she asked.

“Are you okay?” the American girl asked. Sapphire shifted her head from side to side. Melanite put her arm around her shoulders.

“Don’t worry,” she whispered. “I will stay by you, okay?” The Chinese girl flinched.

“Can you please stop touching me?” she asked. The vagabond drew back her arm.

“Sorry about that,” she said.

“Thank you,” Sapphire said. Melanite looked ahead at the other three girls chatting away. Good thing it was a Friday night.

The whole time Amethyst grinned to herself as she planned out what the night was going to have in store. This was needed for their little group.

Meanwhile, the older women were staying in and having their own girls’ night in. Louise held up her bottle wine.

“Everybody ready?” she asked.

“Yeah!” the women cheered. May the wine and movies begin!
