Around the World in a Day

Muriel wanted her house back. She already had her son and daughter in the house. She didn’t expect the ex-husband to be here. But here he was. It would be better to back up for a clearer picture in this story.

For some reason, Muriel got up early this morning. She didn’t know why. Something told her that something wasn’t right. That’s when she heard the doorbell. The old biddy frowned to herself. What was it now? She didn’t want to get out of bed.

“I’ll get it!” Juliet shouted from the hall. Muriel buried her face into her pillow.

“No, go away!” she mumbled to herself. It didn’t take long for it to get worse.

“Dad? What are you doing here? When did you get here?” Juliet asked from the front door. Muriel broke down wailing in her pillow. And there it was. The whole family was back together again.

Please kill now, Muriel thought as she wailed into her pillow again.

The Sunny Plum had just opened for the day. Crusher stretched his neck from side to side. Annie watched him from behind the counter.

“Dustin,” she said. Her nephew turned his head.

“Yeah?” he asked.

“Where is your vest?” she asked. The big boy threw back his head and groaned.

“I don’t want to wear that!” he wailed. “It looks stupid on me!”

“Nonsense!” Annie said with hands on her hips. “You look professional in your vest.” Crusher groaned again. Why does she always say that? He couldn’t convince her otherwise.

“Go put your vest on,” his aunt said. The boy looked like he was about to cry.

“Come on,” Annie said. The boy dropped his head as he walked to the back. His aunt followed close behind with a frown on her face. How many weeks has it been? She still can’t get him to wear that vest. Also, Dustin just doesn’t seem to know how to smile. However, Annie wasn’t going to give up yet.

“I’m going to make you a hard worker yet,” she said to herself.

“What?” Crusher asked.

“Nothing!” Annie lied. They both walked into the back.

“Sorry to hear ‘at, Mur,” Clyde said on the couch. Aisha smacked her on the back of her head.

“Ow!” the dirty old biddy wailed. The leader frowned at her. Muriel looked like she was about to cry as she threw back her and wailed aloud.

“Why did he come here?” Lewis asked.

“I don’t know!” Muriel said.

“Well… is he going to stay here?” Aisha asked.

“I don’t know!” the old biddy wailed. “I just want my house back!”

“Mum?” Tre asked.

“Mur?” her ex-husband asked. Muriel looked at her friends, frowning. Her eyes pleaded with them to help her.
